BIOGRAPHY
Founder and Artistic Director Christalyn Wright
Based in Brooklyn, New York, choreographer, dancer, and dance instructor, Christalyn E. Wright has been creating and performing for over ten years. Her work has been presented on Sesame Street, ABC's "Good Morning America", and numerous venues including the Joyce Soho, Danspace Project at St. Mark's Church, Movement Research at Judson Church, Dixon Place, Aaron Davis Hall, and the Brooklyn Arts Exchange. In addition Ms Wright's creative endeavors have appeared on stages both nationally and internationally among them, The Windybrow Center for the Arts (Johannesburg, South Africa), the ACDFA Gala Performance at Slippery Rock University, The Ebenezer Experimental Festival (Sweden), Dance Place (Washington D.C.), Christ Church and the Painted Bride (Philadelphia),  The Penumbra Theatre (St. Paul, Minnesota), and Orvieto, Italy.
Ms. Wright has created works and pieces for an eclectic array of students, clients and venues, most notably Williams College, Maryland Dance Ensemble, James Madison University, Brooklyn Arts Exchange Kids, Young Dancers in Repertory, Quinto and Company's production of Marc Buchanan's Pelle Pelle (NYC's Men's Fashion Week), Bertha Pan's FACE (Saving Face Films, LLC),  Andrew Jannetti and Dancers. Recently, Ms. Wright choreographed and performed in Time Life's "Uptown Saturday Night" infomercial featuring Nick Ashford and Valerie Simpson. In 2005, she co-choreographed Tami Chynn's "Tell me Seh" (Universal Records) directed by Tim Naylor and Nadia Sampson and choreographed live action with animation for the Emmy award-winning thirty eighth season of Sesame Street featuring Grammy-award winner, John Legend, produced by Kalira and Funkmation Productions. She has also taught her unique course, Afrohopatazz, as well as other forms of dance, throughout the Northeast, California, and Johannesburg, South Africa.

A 2007 Harlem Stage Fund recipient for Sing-A-Song and a 2004 New York Foundation for the Arts Fellow in Choreography, Ms. Wright has received grants from the Puffin Foundation Grant for her original dance-theater piece the HO show in 2001, the Gowanus Arts Exchange Space Grant, and the Astral Career Grant from the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts, and a 1997 recipient of the Puffin Foundation Grant for Welcome to the Chris Club: Where Private Moments are Welcomed. More recently, she was an Artist-in-Residence at the Brooklyn Arts Exchange from 2001-2003. She has also presented original works in collaboration with poet Carl Hancock Rux at the Whitney Museum of American Art, Brooklyn Museum of Art, the Nuyorican Poets Café and the Brooklyn Academy of Music's Harvey Theater.

A graduate of the State University of New York at Purchase with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance, Ms. Wright has been a Guest Artist at several East Coast universities. In 2001, she was an Arthur Levitt, Jr. '52, Artist-in-Residence Fellow at Williams College in Williamstown, MA where she premiered a site-specific work at MASS MoCA.

Currently, Ms Wright is touring as an ensemble member and dance captain with  "Temptation of St Anthony", the new production from acclaimed director Robert Wilson and composer Dr. Bernice Johnson Reagon. Ms. Wright can also be seen in Carrie Mae Weems' "Coming Up For Air"  and Liza Johnson's "If Not then, Maybe" video projects. In addition, she has toured internationally and nationally with the Urban Bush Women, Movin Spirits Dance Theater, Jane Comfort and Company, Mark Dendy Dance Theater, Okra Dance, and Pepatain.
 

 Company History

 The Brooklyn based dance company Wright Now! evolved out of a two-year      artist-in-residency program at Brooklyn Arts Exchange (BAX). The company was founded by Christalyn Wright. Wright, who has been a vital force in the dance and performance arts community for a decade, also serves as Wright Now's Artistic Director. Under Wright's tutelage Wright Now! has brought their unique vision to venues throughout New York City, the Tri State area, New England West Virginia, Reston, VA, and Michigan. Among the key components of Wright Now's mission is working with at risk youth and providing optimal dance theatre and performance workshops for the community at large.
